Pictorially below you can follow the inspection and cutting process of the rough as purchased to a finished gem. At each point in the process steps are taken to insure the gem is cut to precise angles and dimensions. All our beautiful cut gems, with the exception of diamonds, are cut only by Gems by Gregory LLC here in America’s Historic Triangle in southeast Virginia. We never sub-contract cutting of our gems to another company or country. Only trained artisans with decades of experience will cut the gems we offer for sale.
Here parcels of aquamarine, spessarite garnet, and tourmaline await inspection.
After sorting and inspection, the individual pieces of rough are preformed to the approximate finished shape that the gem will take. These are then attached to a “dop” to be cut.
The “dop” is then inserted into a precision faceting (cutting) machine.
This is a completed, beautiful, 3.82 carat peridot. Please remember we only offer, with the exception of diamonds, gems that we have cut here in America’s Historic triangle in southeast VA. We never sent our rough to be cut in another country or by another company.
