{"id":953,"date":"2012-03-03T10:01:49","date_gmt":"2012-03-03T15:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gemsbygregory.com\/site\/?p=476"},"modified":"2018-02-10T14:24:45","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T19:24:45","slug":"the-2012-tucson-gem-and-mineral-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gemsbygregory.com\/site\/the-2012-tucson-gem-and-mineral-shows\/","title":{"rendered":"Tucson Gem and Mineral Shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2012 Tucson Gem and Mineral shows saw a slight uptick in attendance over 2011.\u00a0 There was certainly a great offering\u00a0of colored stones at various price points.\u00a0 \u00a0Buyers were spending more this year but they &#8220;shopped&#8221; the shows and looked for and found good value.\u00a0 This was true at the &#8220;downtown&#8221; shows along with the various venues further away from the City center.<\/p>\n<p>There certainly was an\u00a0excellent choice of either cut or rough material at varying price points.\u00a0 An increase of\u00a0\u00a0the amount of Ethiopian Welo opals either in the rough or cut was noted as word spread of the higher amount of stable material being offered with a good play of color.\u00a0 With all material however one needs to be very careful in the material they choose.<\/p>\n<p>Also\u00a0a great amount of high quality fossils and minerals (collector items, rough pieces, \u00a0slabs, etc.) continued\u00a0 to be offered at many of the shows with the vendors, as always, being very helpful.\u00a0 I speak from experience as I wanted to bring my grandchildren a few slabs for cabbing and the time taken to help me me was&#8211;well, you would think I was buying a truck load!<\/p>\n<p>I have always found going to Tucson\u00a0to be, in addition to help fulfilling our cutting needs, \u00a0great fun with time well spent visiting with old friends and making new acquaintances.
